Evergreen Center - CHINA

Evergreen Center was founded by Lin Yue, an ordinary citizen in Beijing as well as mother of a 6 year’s old boy. Upstart nongovernmental organization Evergreen's approach to tackling Beijing's environmental woes is of the people, by the people, for the people—promoting awareness and encouraging the community to solve their own problems cooperatively. Evergreen brings a community approach to tackling Beijing's environmental woes - for the sake of the next generation.

NGOs in China date back only around 20 years. Evergreen calls itself a “third generation” Chinese NGO. According to Wu Yiqun, husband of Lin Yue, also the one who takes out personal money to support a grass-root NGO, The first generation was personality or celebrity driven, like Evergreen's predecessor, Liang Congjie's Friends of the Nature—China's first ever legal NGO. The second generation was established by experts, scientists, and specialists. The third generation is community/grassroots driven, encouraging ordinary people to take action to address their own problems.
